Many women spoke out their own dreadful experiences and how they survived. Our social worker and counsellor, Suchandra spoke to them about various forms of violence and its effects on physical health.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This year, however, only 10 women, patients from different categories of Calcutta Rescue, could attend the event. The numbers of attendees were surely less than last year but the enthusiasm was high.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-405bfc3 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"405bfc3\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cIn the lockdown period the violence against women has increased alarmingly. Women, especially from poor families are scared to go to police often because there is a social stigma attached to it and often women are blamed for it. So even if the abusers are punished, the woman herself will be marked and shamed.\u201d Suchandra said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-a54de92 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"a54de92\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-43b855b\" data-id=\"43b855b\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-275d318 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"275d318\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n<p>The women patients of Calcutta Rescue shared their views on gender based violence from female foeticide, early child marriage and its consequences, dowry related death, and different forms of physical, sexual, emotional &amp; financial torture.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-a70cbd8 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"a70cbd8\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-33288f6\" data-id=\"33288f6\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b2e2be4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b2e2be4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n<p>Mira\u2019s husband used to beat her up, torture her emotionally and even forced himself on her. But these were not something she could get help from anyone because after all \u201cmen will be men\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSadly marital rape is not an offense in India and there is no punishment for that by the law.\u201d said Suchandra.<\/p>\n<p>So the tortures increased and as a result from her twenties Mira became a patient of hypertension.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After years of torture, Mira\u2019s husband died when she was in her late 30s. \u201cThe abuse stopped but it left me with full of scars, both mental and physical. My dream to become a teacher was never fulfilled; my childhood and my youth was spoiled and left me traumatised.
