Most of them ignore it as a common cold that will go away with time. But Covid-19 shares the same symptoms and it can become fatal.\u201d<\/p>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/dmg.org.in\/calcuttarescue\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/WhatsApp-Image-2021-05-14-at-11.46.29-AM-768x1024-1.jpeg\" width=\"193\" height=\"257\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 193px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 193\/257;\" \/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/dmg.org.in\/calcuttarescue\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/WhatsApp-Image-2021-05-14-at-11.46.29-AM-768x1024-1.jpeg\" width=\"193\" height=\"257\" \/><\/noscript>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">In the current situation, many slum dwellers are also hiding their symptoms. \u201cThey are afraid of being alone and stigmatised in the slum community,\u201d explained Debu. \u201cThat is why we needed our CHWs who can convince them not to stay quiet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Every day the CHWs move through their respective slums, checking up on the patients and convincing slum dwellers to get tested if they have Covid-like symptoms. They are armed with thermal guns and pulse oximeters. Almost all of them had mild or no symptoms, and were advised to isolate themselves in their homes as much as possible.
