Our history

In 2017 a trio of volunteers, UK-based doctors Amy Denh Lunn and Marcello Scopazzini, with Dutch researcher Esther Sulkers, started a data revolution at the charity when they pioneered several research projects aimed at informing clinical practices and operational priorities.

 

Our research team

Calcutta Rescue Research Collaborative in early 2020. It comprises a group of international research volunteers from a wide variety of disciplines. They meet online to generate relevant and accountable research protocols buttressed by rigorous methodology and ethical guidance. The main purpose is to provide a structured, accountable, and multi- disciplinary forum to support the burgeoning research work produced by Calcutta Rescue

Research brings forth impact

Through rigorous research initiatives, we aim to uncover insights, identify challenges, and develop innovative solutions to address pressing social issues.

MPI study

Multidimensional Poverty Index research is the first large-scale research conducted in 2019 and 2024 in 23 slums which determines the deeply rooted problems that need attention and intervention


Covid 19 study

Conducted in 2021, COVID-19 research survey, searches and determines the insecurity the slum dwellers felt and how they overcame the adversities. Based on the result Calcutta Rescue carried out one of the largest dry ration drive

Malnutrition study

Started in 2017, our malnutrition survey focuses primarily on slum children under five. The findings revealed significant growth deficits among these children. In response, a specialized nutrition and diet program tailored to address these urgent needs was launched

Life satisfaction study

This survey was conducted in 2021. The data is taken from MPI data to determine the satisfaction, dissatisfaction, disparity and aspiration of the slum dwellers. Gender is one of the main points of discussion for this survey.
