Bridging the education gap

Early intervention, ongoing support

Transforming lives by educating underprivileged children

Calcutta Rescue's students come from the poorest homes and their parents are usually illiterate. Our in-depth support allows them to get all the benefits of a good education and then we assist them to get a job or higher qualification.

Manisha Kumari Singh

Manisha Kumari Singh scored 84.40% in the Class 12 board examination. She came to Calcutta Rescue at a young age. Her family was left heartbroken and scared after her father’s demise who was the sole earning member. Yet, without giving up she strived for her future. She says, “Calcutta Rescue helped me continue my studies, and I was overjoyed to see my marks. The teachers were very supportive, and studying with them and my friends was my best memory. My goal is to secure a government job to secure my family’s future.”

Dilip

Dilip, a shy child grew up with his parents and elder brother in the Dilerjung area, known for the obscurity of the slums. Though not academically inclined, Dilip found solace in the arts. He was able to pursue an animation course and secure a job with the help of Calcutta Rescue. Despite losing his job during the pandemic, he found work as a texture artist in a
media and design company in Hyderabad. Dilip’s father expresses, “I am very happy for my son. I pray that he prospers and makes us and Calcutta Rescue even more proud.”
