A shipment of personal protection equipment donated by people in the US has arrived in Kolkata and will be helping keep staff and beneficiaries at NGO Calcutta Rescue safe from Covid-19 over the coming weeks. 180 kg of PPE kit including N95 masks, gloves, face shields, suit and digital oral thermometers shipped from USA to Kolkata.
Dr Aliva De, who coordinated the shipment and helps run the charity’s US support group said: “Like many others, my husband and I have lost several significant family members due to COVID. There seemed to be anarchy around resource distribution and utilization in India. When Calcutta Rescue reached out with their needs, we did not think twice.”
Dr Jonathan Reisman, a long time US support group member who was also involved, said: “Watching the carnage in India from afar makes us feel powerless, but we know that saving even a few lives is worth the effort. We are grateful to all donors who supported our efforts.”
Calcutta Rescue pharmacist Shantanu said, “We are deeply grateful for this timely donation. Now our field staff will be safe when they visit remote slum areas to check on our beneficiaries.”
